One of our favorite library events of the year is back and this time we get to be a part of it. That’s right, Misty and I have finally made the big show: MINI CON 2012!

This is the third iteration of the successful brainchild of McCully-Moiliili Public Library’s Hillary Chang. In 2010 and 2011, we both covered and promoted the event and joyfully attended it, buying up the cutest nemu*nemu buttons and the latest issue of Gordon Rider. For the 2012 edition, we are humbly honored to be part of this unique, fun, and best of all, free event for the public.

Wormy! One of the newest changes this year is that Hawaii Reads (formerly Hawaii Book Blog) will have a table at the event! We will be passing out free Hawaii Reads bookmarks (while supplies last) to everyone who visits our table, and are working on details to do an onsite giveaway (so stay tuned on our Facebook page). Also, Wormy the Hawaii Reads mascot will be there, so we encourage kids to come take a picture with him! So, we would love to formally invite all of our friends, family, readers and industry peers to please come and visit us! Stop and say “hi,” and check out the other wonderful, long-time Mini Con participants:

  • Audra Ann Furuichi, creator of the cute and funny comic nemu*nemu and its newspaper spinoff  Blue Hawaii. Audra and Scott always have an eye-catching table full of tons of adorable nemu*nemu merchandise that you will want to buy!
  • Local illustrator Jon J. Murakami, who is the creator of Gordon Rider, Murakami’s Calabash, and also contributes to a number of awesome keiki books. Get your fill of Gordon Rider comics, his children’s books, and Gordon Rider merchandise (including cool buttons and shirts).
  • Kevin Sano, a fantastic illustrator and graphic designer, who has created great works of art and t-shirt designs. He usually has dazzling prints and other awe-inspiring designs for sale.
  • Pen & Ink Works members, who will present a drawing demonstration at 10:30am at 12 noon, and be available for one-on-one art reviewing afterwards. It’s a great opportunity to have your illustrations constructively critiqued and improve your technique.

As the flyer says, cosplay is encouraged. Dress up and you’ll receive a free prize!
