Kapolei Public Library will offer special events for the whole family in celebration of the 2010 HSPLS Children’s Summer Reading Program from June -July.  Admission is free.

Keiki Storytimes: Summer 2010 will be held on Mondays and Thursdays through August 28, except on holidays and days when other special events are scheduled.  All storytimes will be conducted from 10 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., and include stories, fingerplays, and songs.  Parents or caregivers mustaccompany their children.  Registration is not required. A special Family Story Time featuring guest readers will be conducted on Thursday, June 17 at 10 a.m. in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.  The Child Abuse Prevention Planning Council and State Department of Health are sponsoring this story time.  Children ages 3 and older, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, are invited to listen to a variety of age-appropriate stories.  Each child will receive a free goody bag filled with treats including a McDonald’s “snack” gift certificate, and fun and informational materials for parents, while supplies last.

Target has presented a generous grant to Kapolei Public Library for the summer reading program and will sponsor the following three events:

  • Saturday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. – The Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble will present a demonstration and discussion on the art of performing with taiko (Japanese drums).  Learn about the different drums and percussion instruments of Japan that are used in traditional and contemporary music.
  • Saturday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. – “The Fire and Ice Spectacular!”  Mad Science of Hawaii will present a fast-paced, high energy and educational demonstration of science experiments involving fire and dry ice.
  • Friday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m. – “The Amazing Magical Bubble Show.”  The Aloha Clowns will present good “clean” fun and astound one and all with a variety of bubbles: single, square, bubbles inside of bubbles, and a whole lot of bubbles.

Contact the Library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed for these programs.

In addition, Kapolei Public Library is currently conducting its annual Children’s, Teen, and Adult Summer Reading Programs through July 2.  All
programs are free.
