  • Friends of Kapa‘a Public Library Book Sale – The Friends of Kapa‘a Public Library will hold a book sale over the weekend. All sales support the Kapa‘a Public Library.   • Story By Zombie: Enliven Your Tales with the Undead – Ida Yoshinaga leads a hands-on workshop in using common motifs, themes, and storytelling techniques from zombie tales, to help you develop your original story about the undead, or to reinvigorate an ordinary tale in freshly supernatural ways. Bring a writing instrument and one paragraph summarizing your short story or film idea (related to zombies or not). Register by 10/13.   • Friends of the Library Kona (FOLK) Book Sale – FOLK host a book sale on the second Saturday of each month with a few exceptions.  F.O.L.K. Members receive 20% off Lanai Sales.  Proceeds from the sale will go to help fund Kona libraries.  The book sale will be held on the library’s lanai.   • JCCH “Book of the Month” author signing – Beginning in October, the JCCH is featuring a “Book of the Month” author signing during its Second Saturday Courtyard Bazaar.  This month meet Eileen Wacker, CEO of Once Kids and author of the Fujimini Island books: a series of Asian inspired children’s stories which have also been transformed into iBooks and game apps. As always bargain seekers can find unique treasures including art, antiques, toys, crafts, collectibles, household items, books, music, dishes, tools, clothes, fabrics, furniture and that special one-of-a-kind gift. The sale is free for shoppers.   • Story Flow – Theme: “The First Time” – Ready for a new performance literary event at Volcano Art Center? Here it is: the Story Flow in which YOU bring your best six minute story related to the theme of the month (no stories on other themes, please, no matter how magnificent they are!). This isn’t a contest, but audience participation is encouraged -audience, come with quotes and quips on the theme of the month if you’ve got them! Whether you’re a writer, performer, or improviser, your stories are welcome. They must be six minutes or less and aimed for audience entertainment. (Hint: Rehearse; don’t ramble!) No more than 10 stories will be told, so come early. Entry fee $6.00.   • Celebrate HP with Pottermore Event – The book store is hosting a Harry Potter Halloween Party for ages 7 to 16 on this day.
